Activity No. 90 : Establishment of a JWG on Information Technology Industry under the JCC of CPEC

During the 10th session of Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) of CPEC, which was held today via videoconference, Pakistan and China decided to establish a new Joint Working Group on Information Technology Industry.

The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Asad Umar, Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives of Pakistan and Mr. Ning Jizhe, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China.

In his speech, Mr. Asad Umar said that CPEC has entered the second stage of high-quality development, leading to further deepening of economic ties between the two nations. He remarked that the newly established joint working group on information technology will be key to strengthening bilateral cooperation in science and technology, which will help Pakistan embrace the new era of economic development driven by high-tech.

Mr. Ning Jizhe said the CPEC is a flagship and pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative, and considerable progress has been made during the past eight years. The two sides will make a big push to boost the high-quality development of the CPEC. He said more efforts will also be made to enhance bilateral cooperation in fields such as industry, science and technology.

Commenting on the establishment of the new JWG, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Mr. Moin ul Haque noted that the joint working group on IT would give a new impetus to Pakistan - China cooperation for innovation and emerging technologies and boost to high quality development of CPEC.
