Activity No.81 : Pakistan Participates in 28th Beijing International Book Fair as Country of Honour

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, Pakistan has been specially invited by the Chinese government to participate in the 28th Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) as the Country of Honour.

In this regard, a special ceremony was held today at New China International Exhibition Centre to inaugurate Pakistan Pavilion as the Country of Honour. The event was attended by the top ranking officials from Communist Party of China and other state institutions including Mr. Huang Kunming, the Director of Publicity Department of Communist Party of China; Mr. Wu Shulin, Executive Vice President of China Publishers Association and Mr. Zhao Haiyun, Deputy Director General of the CPC’s Publicity Department.  The event was also participated by top ranking Chinese intellectuals including Ambassador Lu Shulin, Professor Tang Mengsheng, Professor Zhang Shixuan and representatives of press and media organizations.

A special video message sent by Mr. Shafqat Mahmood, the Minister of Culture and Literary Heritage Division of Pakistan was also played during the inaugural ceremony. Highlighting the significance of literary and cultural ties for steady development of Pakistan-China friendship, the Federal Minister said that governments of both countries will use all existing mechanism to deepen bilateral relations in relevant fields. He also appreciated special attention of Chinese government for enhancing bilateral relations with Pakistan in all fields of bilateral cooperation.

During his speech, Ambassador Moin ul Haque paid rich tribute to the intellectuals, writers and poets of Pakistan and China for their contributions for strengthening bilateral friendship. He underscored that artistic and literary traditions of Pakistan and China share common values and have played a leading role for the development of world literature. The Ambassador reiterated that as per the vision of leadership and aspirations of people of two countries, Pakistan and China would continue to expand bilateral literary and cultural exchanges in the future.

Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”.
