Activity No.55 : First Sino-Pakistan Symposium on Traditional Chinese Medicine held in Hunan Province

The First Sino-Pakistan Symposium on Traditional Chinese Medicine was held in HuaiHua city in Hunan Province on 9th June. The unveiling of Sino-Pakistan Cooperation Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine also took place on the sidelines of the symposium.

From Pakistan, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, provincial health minister of Sindh government, Dr. Ataur Rehman, Chairman Prime Minister’s Task Force on Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry, Director ICCBS, Prof. Dr. Khalid M. Iraqi, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University and Mrs. Sadia Rashid, Chancellor Hamdard University and from China, Mr. Li Chunqiu, Mayor of HuaiHua, Prof. Mao Keping, Party Secretary Hunan University of Medicine, Prof. Dr. He Qinghu, Chancellor Hunan University of Medicine participated in the event. Besides a large number of senior officials, researchers and academicians working in the field of traditional medicine participated and made presentations.

A large number of MOUs between Provincial Health and Population Welfare Department, Government of Sindh and TCM bureaus from Peoples Government of Hunan and Sichuan Provinces and ICCBS Karachi University, Hamdard University, Hunan University of Medicine, Sihezhi University, Institute of Food Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences were also signed on the occasion.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Mr. Moin ul Haque congratulated the organizations for holding this important event, which was also part of activities making 70 years of China-Pakistan diplomatic ties. He said that the symposium and the various MOUs signed today would help in strengthening cooperation between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Traditional Pakistani Medicine.

During the visit, Ambassador also met with the Party Secretary of HuaiHua city Mr. Lei Shaoye, and Mayor Li Chunqiu and discussed further cooperation including establishing sister city relationship between HuaiHua and Pakistan cities. The Ambassador also visited TCM industrial units based in HuaiHua city.
