Activity No.4: Articles by Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and China Published In Press Media of Pakistan and China

On 2 March 2021, the articles of State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were published in prominent newspapers of Pakistan and China. The articles were published in English and national languages of the two countries and coincided with the official beginning of 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties.

Paying glorious tribute to iron-clad friendship between Pakistan and China which had grown from strength to strength in last 70 years, Foreign Minister of Pakistan noted that Pakistani and Chinese civilizations have maintained continued linkages since ancient times. He highlighted that bilateral friendship enjoyed unanimous public and institutional support in two countries and drew strength from cultural affinity, mutual understanding and similarity of views on the matters of common interests. He specially lauded the vision and sagacity of founding leaders of the two countries who provided a sound foundation for the growth of bilateral ties.

The Foreign Minister underscored that Pakistan and China have maintained exemplary coordination on all matters of common interests and always supported each other on their respective core issues. Over the years, bilateral ties have expanded in scope and breadth linking two nations in cultural, economic and people-to-people spheres. He added that CPEC as the flagship project of President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative has injected a new impetus to bilateral friendship and was significant for regional connectivity and economic integration between two countries. He also lauded bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and China after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic especially for the provision of critical medical supplies and vaccine development. 

In his article, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang hailed historic ties between Pakistan and China which have surmounted all challenges over last seven decades. He reiterated that China would keep supporting Pakistan for maintaining its sovereignty and independence. The State Councilor stressed that 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties was a special moment for two countries and people from all walk of life should celebrate it in a befitting manner for future development of bilateral ties.

Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”.
