Activity No.9: Opening of HBL Branch in Beijing

On 22 March 2021, Habib Bank Limited Pakistan, one of the largest Pakistani banks, opened its branch in Beijing in a befitting manner. The launch ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from the Beijing government and corporate executives from China and Pakistan. The event coincided with the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China and marked one of many activities to commemorate this milestone year.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Moin ul Haque said that the opening of HBL’s second branch in China would greatly help economic and financial integration between the two brotherly countries. Pakistan and China enjoy very special and unique relationship. This all-weather strategic cooperative partnership has become stronger in the last 70 years. In recent years, the trade and investment have become central areas of cooperation between Pakistan and China through the expanded Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the start of second phase of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which focuses on areas of agriculture, science & technology and socio-economic development.

The Ambassador emphasized that cooperation between the two countries in the banking and financial sector is extremely important. He congratulated president and senior management of HBL on the launch of Beijing branch and said that it was a new chapter in the development of bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Moin ul Haque also appreciated HBL’s participation in arranging Government of Pakistan’s debut panda bond issuance in China along with China Development Bank and CICC, largest investment bank from China. Noting that HBL is the largest bank involved in CPEC related projects and financing through a number of BRI initiatives, Ambassador Haque hoped that HBL’s presence in China would help in further promoting cross border e-commerce between Pakistan and China.
