Activity No.50: First Pakistan-China Literary Forum Held to Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Ties between Pakistan and China

In order to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, the 1st Pakistan-China Literary Forum was held in Beijing and Islamabad on 25 May 2021. Held under the theme of ‘Literature brings the people together’, the Forum was organized by the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing, China Writers’ Association and Pakistan Academy of Letters. It was attended by top ranking intellectuals, writers and poets from both Pakistan and China and the senior representatives of the two Embassies.

In their key note addresses, Ms. Tie Ning, the President of China Writers Association and Dr. Yousuf Khushk, the Chairman of Pakistan Academy of Letters reviewed the ongoing literary cooperation between Pakistan and China and exchanged views to deepen bilateral cooperation in this regard.

During the forum, the writers from both sides spoke about cultural affinity between Pakistan and China and its influences on the literature of the two countries. They discussed in detail the effects of history, politics and geography on the evolution of literary trends and movements in both countries. Expressing satisfaction at the deepening bilateral literary ties, the writers from the two countries emphasized the need to further enhance such linkages in future as well.

During the event, the Urdu translation of well-known Chinese poet Qu Yuan’s book ‘Li Sao’ was also launched. The translation has been made by Dr. Abid Sial.
